You can determine where an employee has access to by indicating on which badge readers, barriers and/or access zones this employee has access.
Basically, access is always given via badge readers:
•If you give access to a barrier, this means that you give access to the employee on all the badge readers that are linked to this barrier.
•If you give access on an access zone, this means that you give access to the employee on all the badge readers that give access to this access zone. Of course it is also possible to determine that an employee can only enter an access zone via certain badge readers.
Within simple systems you can directly give access to employees on barriers. You are going to indicate for each secured access (door, gate, etc.) if an employee may enter.
It is however also possible to logically group different barriers, by dividing your company into logical access zones. At a barrier (door, gate, etc.) you can then indicate from which zone to which zone this has access.
After you have created the necessary access zones, it is very easy to clearly determine in this way who may enter which zone in the company. Of course it is still possible to give access to employees on barriers which were not linked to an access zone.
With access zones you can come to a simplified management, since you then reason on logical areas to secure, in stead of on explicit doors. Depending on your specific situation and needs, the use of zones is whether or not interesting.
Besides that you have extra possibilities like a quick check of who is present/absent, an antipassback controle, the minimum and maximum number of persons in an access zone, etc.
